Investigating the effects of UVB treatment on immune cells in psoriasis and atopic dermatitis
UVB-induced Treg Cells Exert Antigen-specific Suppression Through LAG-3
This study is testing whether UVB treatment can change the immune cells in people with psoriasis or atopic dermatitis to see if it helps improve their condition.

What this trial studies
This clinical trial aims to analyze the immune cell populations in the blood of participants with psoriasis or atopic dermatitis before and after undergoing UVB treatment. Participants will donate blood samples before starting the treatment and again after an 8 to 10-week course of UVB irradiation, which will occur 2 to 3 times per week. The study will focus on whether UVB treatment increases the population of antigen-specific regulatory T cells (Treg) and enhances their suppressive function. Researchers will utilize mass cytometry to assess changes in immune cell populations and perform ex vivo assays to evaluate Treg cell activity.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 20 and older diagnosed with psoriasis or atopic dermatitis.
Not a fit: Patients who have had UV exposure in the last 8 weeks, have contraindications for UV treatment, or have a history of cancer or primary immunodeficiency may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved treatment strategies for psoriasis and atopic dermatitis by enhancing the understanding of how UVB therapy affects immune regulation.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of this study may be novel, previous studies have indicated that UVB treatment can influence immune responses in skin inflammatory diseases.
