Investigating protein levels in kidney transplant patients
Evaluation of Recipients With and Without Proteinuria, Pre and Post Kidney Transplantation
This study looks at kidney transplant patients with a specific kidney disease to see how protein levels change before and after the transplant and what might cause protein in their urine to come back.

What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on patients with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) who are at high risk for developing proteinuria after kidney transplantation. It will analyze serum specimens and kidney transplant specimens before and after reperfusion to identify defects that lead to the recurrence of proteinuria. The study will also review medical records for urine protein levels, blood creatinine, and kidney biopsy results, as well as the characteristics of the fluid used to flush the kidney prior to transplant.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are pediatric kidney transplant recipients aged 25 years or younger with a history of FSGS.
Not a fit: Patients who have received transplants other than kidneys will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve understanding of proteinuria recurrence in kidney transplant patients, potentially leading to better management strategies.
How similar studies have performed: While this study addresses a specific aspect of proteinuria recurrence, similar studies have shown varying degrees of success in understanding kidney transplant outcomes.
