What this trial studies

This study aims to explore the effects of obstetric brachial plexus paralysis on the shoulder's rotator muscles in children. It hypothesizes that shoulder stiffness results from an imbalance between affected and less affected muscles. By conducting muscle biopsies, the researchers will assess the regenerative capabilities of these muscles and develop a cellular model to test new therapeutic approaches. The findings could lead to better understanding and management of shoulder stiffness in affected children.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children diagnosed with obstetric brachial plexus palsy who are scheduled for shoulder surgery.

Not a fit: Patients with other neurological disorders or post-traumatic shoulder stiffness may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve treatment strategies for children with obstetric brachial plexus palsy, potentially enhancing their shoulder mobility and overall quality of life.

How similar studies have performed: While this approach is innovative, similar studies have not been widely reported, indicating a novel exploration in this area.
