Investigating movement processing and balance in older adults

The Effects of Conscious Movement Processing on Postural Stability and Muscle Efficiency While Standing in a Challenging Environment by Older Adults at Risk of Falling in Hong Kong: Implications for Rehabilitation.

Observational The Hong Kong Polytechnic University · NCT05630911

What this trial studies

This observational study examines how the ability to consciously process movement affects postural stability and muscle efficiency in older adults at risk of falling in Hong Kong. Participants will be assessed while performing standing tasks of varying difficulty to understand the relationship between their movement processing traits and their ability to maintain balance. The findings aim to enhance our understanding of movement processing mechanisms in older adults and inform future rehabilitation interventions to reduce fall risks.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are older adults aged 65 and above who can stand independently without assistance.

Not a fit: Patients with major neurological disorders, recent significant falls, or unstable medical conditions may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved rehabilitation strategies that enhance balance and reduce fall risks in older adults.

How similar studies have performed: While this specific approach is novel, similar studies have shown promise in understanding movement processing and balance in older populations.
