What this trial studies
This observational study examines the post-acute phase of COVID-19, focusing on the long-term effects on organ function, particularly in the lungs, cardiovascular system, and kidneys. It aims to identify risk factors and biomarkers associated with the development of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in patients who have recovered from COVID-19. By analyzing data from a cohort of COVID-19 patients and a control group with other respiratory diseases, the study seeks to understand the prevalence and risk ratios of complications arising from the post-acute phase. The ultimate goal is to minimize the risk of developing or worsening NCDs in current and future COVID-19 patients.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults over 18 years old who have had a blood sample taken during their COVID-19 hospitalization.
Not a fit: Patients who do not understand or speak Danish or lack a Danish personal identification number may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved early detection and management of long-term complications following COVID-19.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have indicated potential links between COVID-19 and long-term health complications, suggesting this approach is relevant and timely.
