What this trial studies
The COMMUNITY study aims to longitudinally assess immune responses following SARS-CoV-2 infection and vaccination among healthcare workers and hospitalized COVID-19 patients. Enrolling 5,500 participants, the study will collect blood and mucosal samples every four months to evaluate antibody and cellular immune responses. Additionally, demographic and clinical data will be gathered through a smartphone app and national registries, with a focus on understanding vaccine responses and protection against infections. The study also includes sub-studies for more frequent sampling and PCR screenings.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include healthcare workers employed at Danderyd Hospital and COVID-19 patients admitted with confirmed infections.
Not a fit: Patients who are not healthcare workers or who have not been hospitalized with COVID-19 may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance our understanding of COVID-19 immunity and inform vaccination strategies for better protection against the virus.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies investigating immune responses to COVID-19 have shown promising results, indicating that this approach is supported by prior research.
