What this trial studies
This study aims to explore the impact of stereotype threat on impulsivity and its connection to alcohol consumption among African Americans. By utilizing fMRI technology, researchers will assess the behavioral and neural responses to stress exposure. The findings are expected to enhance the understanding of the interplay between sociocultural factors and alcohol use behaviors. Participants will engage in task-based behavioral interventions to gather data on their responses.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are African American individuals aged 21 to 35 who are fluent in English and right-handed.
Not a fit: Patients who are younger than 21, left-handed, or do not identify as African American may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights that lead to more effective interventions for reducing alcohol use in at-risk populations.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific focus on stereotype threat and alcohol use in this demographic may be novel, related studies have shown success in understanding the effects of stress on behavior.
