Investigating how meal timing affects blood sugar during pregnancy

Influence of Chrono-nutrition Factors, Temporal Dietary Patterns, and Their Interactions With Dietary Quality During Pregnancy on Maternal Gestational Diabetes, Glycemic Parameters, and Gestational Weight Gain.

Observational National Taiwan University Hospital · NCT06215352

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to explore the relationship between chrono-nutrition factors and glycemic parameters in pregnant women, specifically focusing on those at risk for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). By establishing a cohort of women between 10 and 15 weeks of pregnancy, the study will assess how meal timing, frequency, and regularity influence maternal glycemic control and gestational weight gain. The research is motivated by the rising prevalence of GDM and its associated risks for both mothers and their offspring, emphasizing the importance of dietary patterns during pregnancy.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are pregnant women aged 20 years or older, between 10 and 15 weeks of gestation.

Not a fit: Patients with a diagnosis of type 1 or type 2 diabetes, or those currently taking medications affecting glucose metabolism, may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved dietary recommendations for pregnant women, potentially reducing the incidence of gestational diabetes and its complications.

How similar studies have performed: While the field of chrono-nutrition is emerging, there is limited prior research specifically linking meal timing to glycemic control in pregnant women, making this study a novel exploration.
