Investigating factors in metabolically healthy obese children
Phenotyping Metabolically Healthy Obese Adolescents

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to explore the clinical, anthropometric, socio-demographic, and lifestyle predictors of metabolically healthy obesity (MHO) among children and adolescents aged 10-18. It focuses on understanding how fat distribution, muscle mass, strength, and physical activity levels influence metabolic health in obese youth. By identifying the characteristics of MHO individuals, the study seeks to clarify the mechanisms that protect against metabolic disturbances and inform clinical and preventive strategies for pediatric obesity.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children aged 10-18 who are classified as obese and attend the obesity clinic at the pediatric gastroenterology unit.
Not a fit: Patients with congenital or acquired heart disease, inflammatory conditions, or neurological conditions affecting body composition may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to better identification and management strategies for obese children, potentially reducing the risk of metabolic disorders.
How similar studies have performed: Few studies have explored the predictors of metabolically unhealthy obesity, making this approach relatively novel and untested.
