What this trial studies
This project aims to explore the factors that influence the success and failure of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) in individuals diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and a history of self-harm. The study will assess various personality factors, identity disturbances, and emotional regulation to determine their predictive value on treatment outcomes. Participants will be recruited from the Adult psychiatric clinic in Lund and will undergo DBT while their progress is monitored through self-report measures and medical records over a one-year period. The research seeks to fill the knowledge gap regarding what contributes to varying responses to DBT among individuals with BPD.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder who have engaged in self-harm within the past year.
Not a fit: Patients who are unable to read or communicate in Swedish will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved treatment strategies for individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder, enhancing the effectiveness of Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
How similar studies have performed: While DBT has shown positive outcomes in treating BPD, this specific investigation into predictive factors is novel and has not been extensively tested in previous studies.
