What this trial studies
This observational study aims to explore cognitive functioning profiles in adults with neurologically recognized aphasic syndromes compared to the general population. It will involve a minimum of 600 adults over the age of 18, who will undergo psychological assessments focusing on memory, learning, and language tasks. The study seeks to understand how factors such as gender and age may influence cognitive functioning patterns. Additionally, it will gather information on participants' past and present health conditions to provide a comprehensive view of cognitive profiles.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults aged 18 and older, both with neurologically recognized aphasic syndromes and from the general population.
Not a fit: Patients with diseases of the nervous system or mental disorders, as well as those under 18 or over 60 without aphasia, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of cognitive impairments in adults with aphasia, leading to better-targeted interventions and support.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on cognitive functioning in aphasia, this specific approach focusing on a biopsychosocial perspective is relatively novel.
