Investigating bacterial translocation in Crohn's disease
Mesenteric Bacterial Translocation in Evolved Crohn's Disease

What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on understanding how gut bacteria invade mesenteric fat in patients with Crohn's disease, a condition characterized by chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. It aims to explore the mechanisms behind bacterial translocation, which may exacerbate inflammation and contribute to disease progression. The study will include adults requiring ileocecal resection for Crohn's disease and will also have a control group of individuals needing the same surgery for other reasons. By analyzing the relationship between bacterial translocation and inflammatory responses, the study seeks to provide insights into the aggressive forms of Crohn's disease.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older who require ileocecal resection due to Crohn's disease.
Not a fit: Patients requiring ileocecal resection with definitive or transient ileostomy or those with a family history of Inflammatory Bowel Disease may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to better understanding and management of Crohn's disease, potentially reducing the risk of post-surgical recurrence.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of this study may be novel, previous studies have indicated that understanding bacterial translocation can provide valuable insights into inflammatory bowel diseases.
