What this trial studies
This longitudinal, controlled cohort study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of cognitive stimulation and physical activity interventions over four years in Malaysian older adults. Participants will be assigned to one of four groups: cognitive stimulation, physical activity, a combination of both, or a non-intervention control group. The study seeks to provide robust evidence on the long-term benefits of these interventions and assess their cost-effectiveness. By testing hypotheses derived from aging-related theories, the research aims to validate meaningful interventions for improving quality of life in the elderly.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are Malaysian older adults aged 60 and above who are healthy, mobile, and can communicate in English, Malay, Mandarin, or Tamil.
Not a fit: Patients with a history of stroke, neurodegenerative diseases, or those requiring full-time caregiver assistance may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to effective interventions that significantly slow down cognitive and physical decline in older adults, enhancing their quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results with cognitive and physical interventions for aging, but this study aims to provide more robust long-term evidence.
