What this trial studies
This intervention aims to address the public health issues of risky drinking and cannabis use among college students by enhancing an existing electronic parent-based intervention (e-PBI). The modified version, known as e-PBI+, incorporates updated scientific information about cannabis to facilitate better communication between parents and their college-aged children. The study will conduct a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the effectiveness of this enhanced intervention in reducing substance use among students. By engaging parents in discussions about both alcohol and cannabis, the research seeks to mitigate the negative consequences associated with these behaviors.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are parents of college students who are willing to participate and engage in discussions about substance use.
Not a fit: Patients who may not benefit from this study include those whose parents are unwilling to participate or who do not meet the age criteria.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly reduce risky drinking and cannabis use among college students, leading to improved health and academic outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown success with parent-based interventions in reducing substance use among adolescents, indicating a promising approach for this population.
