What this trial studies
This project aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) specifically for adolescents suffering from major depression. Over four years, the study will recruit 60 patients and utilize a quasi-experimental multiple-baseline design to assess treatment outcomes. Key aspects being analyzed include change mechanisms such as mentalizing, emotion regulation, and social support, along with predictors of treatment effectiveness. The implementation of IPT will also be examined through qualitative interviews with participants and their families.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adolescents aged 15 to 17.5 years diagnosed with major depressive disorder.
Not a fit: Patients with ongoing psychosis, severe depression requiring hospitalization, or those with substance abuse issues may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide an effective therapeutic approach for adolescents dealing with major depression.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown positive outcomes for IPT in treating depression, suggesting that this approach may be effective for adolescents as well.
