What this trial studies
This project aims to develop an intervention focused on interoception for individuals diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension, a condition that significantly affects emotional well-being. The study will utilize a randomized control feasibility trial design, enrolling 32 participants from the Scottish Pulmonary Vascular Unit. Participants will be assigned to either the interoceptive intervention group or a control group to assess the feasibility and acceptability of the intervention, as well as to explore preliminary outcomes. The study seeks to address the lack of established psychological interventions for this patient population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults over 18 years old, fluent in English, and diagnosed with any type of pulmonary hypertension under the care of the Scottish Pulmonary Vascular Unit.
Not a fit: Patients with current thoughts of self-harm, substance misuse issues, or those already engaged in other psychological interventions may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could enhance emotional well-being and coping strategies for patients suffering from pulmonary hypertension.
How similar studies have performed: While the approach of using interoceptive interventions is emerging, there is limited evidence from similar studies specifically targeting pulmonary hypertension, making this a novel exploration.
