Inspiratory muscle training to improve breathing and core stability in bronchiectasis

Effects of Functional Inspiratory Muscle Training on Pulmonary Function, Muscle Thickness, and Core Performance in Patients With Bronchiectasis

NA · Istinye University · NCT07188675

What this trial studies

Clinically stable adults with bronchiectasis aged 18–30 will participate in a supervised program using inspiratory muscle training devices targeted at improving inspiratory strength and functional breathing. Baseline and follow-up measures will include respiratory function tests, inspiratory muscle strength, and core muscle thickness and stability. Participants with recent exacerbations, recent changes in treatment, transplant history, balance‑affecting conditions, or recent supervised rehabilitation are excluded. The intervention is delivered in person at a single center with standardized training sessions and outcome measurements.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults 18–30 years old with a clinical diagnosis of bronchiectasis who are clinically stable, can walk independently, and can follow instructions are the ideal candidates.

Not a fit: Patients outside the 18–30 age range, those with recent exacerbations or hospitalizations, recent changes in treatment, transplant history, balance‑affecting conditions, or recent supervised rehabilitation may not benefit from this protocol.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If effective, the training could increase inspiratory muscle strength, improve breathing and core stability, and potentially reduce symptoms and improve daily function.

How similar studies have performed: Inspiratory muscle training has shown benefits for inspiratory strength and symptoms in COPD and some bronchiectasis studies, but combining functional inspiratory training with core stability measures is relatively novel.
