What this trial studies

This is an observational study enrolling adults with chronic non-cancer pain who are being treated in pain units or by pain specialists. Participants will continue to receive usual care while researchers collect clinical data and sleep-related information using standard diagnostic criteria and questionnaires. No experimental treatments are given; the focus is on measuring prevalence, symptom patterns, and the relationship between pain and sleep. The study is conducted at several hospitals in Catalonia, Spain.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults (18+) with a diagnosis of chronic non-cancer pain who are receiving care in a pain unit or from a pain specialist and can give informed consent.

Not a fit: People with cancer-related pain, those not treated in a pain unit, or those unable to cooperate with study procedures are unlikely to benefit directly from this observational project.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could help clinicians better identify and treat insomnia in people with chronic non-cancer pain, improving sleep and pain management.

How similar studies have performed: Previous observational work has repeatedly shown a bidirectional link between poor sleep and greater pain, though interventional evidence to break this cycle is more limited.
