Inflammation markers linked to complications in type 2 diabetes
Association of Inflammatory Factors With Complications in the Diabetic Population: a Cross-sectional Study
This project will see if blood inflammation markers can help predict which adults with type 2 diabetes treated at Nanfang Hospital are more likely to have complications.

What this trial studies
This is a cross-sectional analysis of adults with type 2 diabetes treated at Nanfang Hospital between January 2018 and August 2023. The study measures a range of inflammatory indicators and compares levels between patients with and without diabetes-related complications. Researchers aim to identify early predictors and to screen high-risk groups using routinely collected clinical and laboratory data. Because the design is cross-sectional, it looks for associations rather than proving cause-and-effect.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults (age ≥20) with a confirmed diagnosis of type 2 diabetes who received care at Nanfang Hospital during January 2018–August 2023 are the intended participants.
Not a fit: People with active acute infections, those with type 1 diabetes, or those who were not treated at Nanfang Hospital in the specified timeframe are unlikely to benefit from this analysis.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could help clinicians identify high-risk patients earlier so they can target preventive care to reduce diabetes complications.
How similar studies have performed: Prior observational studies have reported higher inflammation levels in people with diabetes and links between markers like SII and poorer outcomes, but predictive value across populations remains underexplored.
