What this trial studies
This study aims to develop and evaluate a Motivational Interviewing Intervention designed to enhance the uptake of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) among Latino men who have sex with men (MSM) in Puerto Rico. The intervention will focus on addressing barriers to PrEP access and adherence, utilizing motivational interviewing techniques to engage participants effectively. Eligible participants include HIV-negative or unknown status Latino MSM aged 21 and older who meet specific criteria for PrEP use. The study will be conducted at the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are Latino MSM aged 21 and older who are HIV-negative or have an unknown status and meet CDC criteria for PrEP eligibility.
Not a fit: Patients who are HIV positive or unable to read and write in Spanish will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly increase PrEP uptake among Latino MSM, thereby reducing the risk of HIV transmission in this population.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in using motivational interviewing to improve health outcomes, suggesting this approach may be effective in increasing PrEP uptake.
