What this trial studies

This study implements a behavioral intervention called contingency management in rural recovery houses for individuals with substance use disorders. Participants will receive rewards for completing tasks that support their recovery efforts, while house staff will be trained to facilitate this approach. The effectiveness of contingency management will be compared between recovery houses that adopt this method and those that do not, focusing on engagement in activities and retention in the recovery houses over a 12-week period, with follow-up assessments at six months post-treatment.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 or older who are residents of the recovery house and can provide informed consent.

Not a fit: Patients who are expected to be discharged from the recovery house within the next two months or those experiencing uncontrolled mania, psychosis, or suicidality may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could enhance recovery engagement and retention for individuals with substance use disorders in rural settings.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with contingency management approaches in various settings, indicating potential for effectiveness in this context as well.
