What this trial studies
This study investigates the Groups 4 Health (G4H) intervention, a psychosocial group program designed to enhance mental well-being among University of Helsinki students by fostering social connectedness and reducing loneliness. The intervention is based on social identity theory and aims to build participants' social identity capital through group experiences. Previous studies in Australia have shown that G4H effectively decreases loneliness and social anxiety while increasing group memberships compared to standard treatments. This trial will assess the feasibility, effectiveness, and cost-effectiveness of G4H in a Finnish context, addressing a gap in research on its application outside Australia.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adult students aged 18 and above enrolled at the University of Helsinki who can communicate in Finnish, Swedish, or English.
Not a fit: Patients who are not students at the University of Helsinki or those who do not meet the language requirements may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve the mental well-being of university students by reducing feelings of loneliness and enhancing social connections.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies in Australia have shown success with the G4H intervention, indicating its potential effectiveness in different settings.
