What this trial studies
This study aims to determine if adding online yoga classes to an Internet-based weight loss program enhances weight loss compared to health and wellness classes. Participants will first engage in a 12-month automated weight loss program, consisting of a 3-month weight loss phase followed by a 9-month maintenance phase. After the initial phase, participants will be randomly assigned to either yoga or health and wellness classes for 9 months, with assessments conducted at various intervals to measure weight, eating behaviors, physical activity, and psychosocial factors.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults with a BMI between 25-40 kg/m2 who have access to a smartphone and the Internet.
Not a fit: Patients who are currently pregnant, have recently lost significant weight, or have medical conditions contraindicating exercise or dietary changes may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to more effective weight loss strategies for individuals struggling with obesity.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results with similar interventions combining exercise and dietary changes, suggesting potential for success in this approach.
