What this trial studies

This study evaluates the Just Care for Families program aimed at preventing opioid and methamphetamine use and mental health disorders among parents involved with the Oregon Department of Human Services in rural communities. The program addresses social determinants of health (SDOH) through a comprehensive behavioral intervention that includes substance use treatment, mental health support, parent management training, community building, systems navigation, and addressing basic needs. The study will analyze how these interventions impact both the parents' substance use and mental health, as well as the associated costs from the perspective of provider clinics. Additionally, it will explore the effects of external structural SDOH on the intervention's outcomes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are parents of children aged 0-18 who have misused opioids or methamphetamines in the past year and are experiencing current mental health symptoms.

Not a fit: Patients who do not misuse opioids or methamphetamines and do not have mental health symptoms may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly reduce substance use and improve mental health outcomes for parents, ultimately benefiting their children and families.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in addressing social determinants of health to improve substance use and mental health outcomes, making this approach both relevant and potentially impactful.
