What this trial studies
This study involves 150 patients with moderate to severe depression who have recently been discharged from a psychiatric ward. Participants will be randomly assigned to either a treatment as usual group or an Advance-group that receives a psychotherapeutic intervention aimed at advancing their sleep timing. The intervention addresses sleep disturbances that often accompany depression, which can exacerbate symptoms and hinder recovery. By helping patients realign their sleep-wake cycles with societal norms, the study aims to improve their overall mood and functioning.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals with moderate to major depression who have been discharged from a psychiatric ward within the last 30 days and exhibit delayed sleep onset or offset.
Not a fit: Patients with psychotic depression, cognitive impairments, substance abuse issues, or increased suicidal risk may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly enhance recovery from depression by addressing sleep disturbances.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have indicated that interventions targeting sleep patterns can lead to improvements in depressive symptoms, suggesting a promising approach.
