What this trial studies
This study tests a telephonic health coaching intervention aimed at enhancing adherence to positive airway pressure therapy for patients with obstructive sleep apnea. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either health coaching or usual care, with coaching provided by a trained health coach who will address barriers to adherence. The study focuses on English- and Spanish-speaking patients from a public health system who have previously received a positive airway pressure device. Outcomes will be measured through device adherence data and patient-reported outcomes over a four-month period.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are English- or Spanish-speaking adults who have received a positive airway pressure device but are not currently adhering to treatment standards.
Not a fit: Patients who are not English- or Spanish-speaking, younger than 18, or do not have a reachable phone number may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve adherence to sleep apnea treatment, leading to better health outcomes for patients.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with health coaching interventions in improving treatment adherence, suggesting this approach may be effective.
