What this trial studies
This study focuses on enhancing the effectiveness of remote breath alcohol monitors used by clinicians and researchers to track alcohol consumption. It aims to determine the reliability of these devices in detecting alcohol use, particularly during periods when breath samples are not collected, such as overnight. Additionally, the study will explore the use of a blood alcohol biomarker, phosphatidylethanol, to confirm abstinence and identify late-evening drinking behaviors. The research will involve participants who have a history of alcohol-related offenses or heavy drinking episodes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals aged 21 and older with a history of DWI offenses or heavy drinking episodes.
Not a fit: Patients who do not have a history of alcohol use issues or are under court-mandated monitoring may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to more accurate monitoring of alcohol use, improving treatment outcomes for individuals with alcohol use disorder.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using remote monitoring technologies for alcohol detection, indicating a potential for success in this approach.
