What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effectiveness of NeuroResource Facilitation (NRF), a novel intervention aimed at reducing recidivism among offenders with brain injuries. The trial will screen participants in Pennsylvania prisons for brain injury and cognitive impairment, randomizing those who qualify to receive either NRF or standard care. The goal is to determine if NRF can reduce recidivism rates by at least ten percent, thereby aiding ex-offenders in reintegrating into society. The study is conducted in collaboration with the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and the Brain Injury Association of Pennsylvania.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are English-speaking offenders aged 18 and older with a history of brain injury and significant cognitive impairment, who are within six months of release.
Not a fit: Patients who do not speak English or are under 18 years old will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly lower recidivism rates and improve the quality of life for offenders with brain injuries.
How similar studies have performed: While the approach of using case management for offenders with brain injuries is innovative, similar studies have shown promise in addressing recidivism through targeted interventions.
