What this trial studies
This observational study aims to explore the views and baseline knowledge of children and young people with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and their caregivers regarding dietary phosphate management. By utilizing knowledge questionnaires and focus groups, the study seeks to develop effective phosphate educational materials tailored for different age groups and learning styles. The focus is on enhancing understanding of dietary phosphate intake and the use of phosphate binder medications to improve adherence and health outcomes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children aged 8-18 years with CKD stages 4-5D and their caregivers.
Not a fit: Patients with neurodevelopmental or cognitive disorders, or those on intensive dialysis regimens, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved phosphate management in children with CKD, reducing complications associated with hyperphosphatemia.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited data on similar educational interventions specifically for children, studies in adult populations have shown that tailored educational materials can improve dietary adherence.
