What this trial studies
This randomized controlled trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness and scalability of a blood pressure technology system intervention for older adults with hypertension. A total of 224 participants aged 65 and older will be enrolled, with half receiving standard information about hypertension and medications, while the other half will also receive additional strategies for medication adherence and blood pressure management. Participants will be monitored over a 6-month period, with assessments at 3 and 6 months to measure outcomes related to medication adherence and blood pressure control.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are older adults aged 65 and above who are currently taking at least one hypertension medication and have demonstrated low adherence to their medication regimen.
Not a fit: Patients who are experiencing severe depression, cognitive impairment, or have been advised by their healthcare provider to withhold their blood pressure medication may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve medication adherence and blood pressure management in older adults, leading to better health outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in improving medication adherence through technology-based interventions, suggesting that this approach may be effective.
