What this trial studies
This project collaborates with prenatal and postnatal care providers across 12 counties in Michigan to implement best practices aimed at reducing maternal mortality and morbidity disparities. It focuses on developing a scale-up implementation approach that emphasizes community care and coordination among various care settings. The initiative utilizes evidence-based practices known as quality improvement bundles, which address critical issues such as postpartum safety, maternal mental health, chronic conditions, and intimate partner violence. By analyzing implementation experiences in select counties, the project aims to enhance the quality of care for pregnant and postpartum individuals, particularly those on Medicaid.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are pregnant or postpartum individuals receiving Medicaid in Michigan.
Not a fit: Patients who are not receiving Medicaid or are outside the postpartum period may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this initiative could significantly reduce maternal mortality and morbidity disparities among pregnant and postpartum individuals in Michigan.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that implementing hospital-focused maternal safety bundles can improve overall obstetric care, but this approach is novel in its focus on community care and addressing disparities directly.
