What this trial studies

This study aims to implement universal opt-out HIV testing and linkage to preventive care for adolescents aged 15-21 visiting pediatric emergency departments. It utilizes a tablet-based screening process to assess sexual health and identify candidates for HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Participants will have the option to opt-out of testing and, if eligible, will be linked to PrEP services through a digital health platform. The research seeks to enhance the effectiveness of HIV screening and improve access to preventive care for at-risk youth.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adolescents aged 15-21 who are visiting a pediatric emergency department.

Not a fit: Patients who are critically ill, cognitively impaired, or unable to understand English may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly increase HIV screening rates and access to preventive care for adolescents, ultimately reducing HIV infections in this population.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with similar digital health approaches for screening and linking patients to care, indicating a promising avenue for improving HIV prevention efforts.
