What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effectiveness of a mobile health intervention aimed at enhancing health literacy and promoting healthy behaviors among middle-aged and older adults with hypertension in rural communities. It employs a mixed methods approach, beginning with qualitative research followed by a quantitative phase that includes a randomized controlled trial. Participants will be assigned to either an experimental group receiving a hypertension education manual along with mobile health support or a control group receiving only the manual. The intervention lasts for two months, with assessments conducted before and after the program to measure changes in health literacy and behaviors.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are middle-aged and older adults aged 45 and above, diagnosed with hypertension, and capable of using a smartphone for health interventions.

Not a fit: Patients with cognitive impairments, mental disorders, or a high comorbidity index may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve health literacy and self-management behaviors in patients with hypertension, leading to better health outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using mobile health interventions to improve health outcomes in similar populations, indicating a potential for success in this approach.
