What this trial studies
This clinical trial aims to enhance knowledge and awareness of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus among patients who arrive at the Emergency Department with hyperglycemia. Participants will receive an educational packet alongside standard emergency care and will complete surveys before and after the intervention to assess changes in their understanding and health behaviors. The study utilizes the Health Belief Model to address patients' perceptions of their diabetes risk and encourage proactive health management, such as follow-up with primary care physicians and use of medication assistance programs.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are English-speaking adults aged 18 and older who present to the Emergency Department with a blood glucose level of 200 mg/dL or higher.
Not a fit: Patients who are under 18 years old or have a blood glucose level below 200 mg/dL may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could lead to improved health outcomes for patients by increasing their knowledge and encouraging healthier behaviors related to diabetes management.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in using educational interventions to improve health behaviors in similar patient populations, indicating that this approach is promising.
