Improving glioma diagnosis and treatment through molecular analysis

A British Feasibility Study of Molecular Stratification and Targeted Therapy to Optimize the Clinical Management of Patients With Glioma by Enhancing Clinical Outcomes, Reducing Avoidable Toxicity, Improving Management of Post-operative Residual & Recurrent Disease and Improving Survivorship

Observational University of Birmingham · NCT04274283

What this trial studies

The Tessa Jowell BRAIN MATRIX - Platform Study aims to enhance the precision of glioma diagnosis by establishing a network of clinical hubs across the UK that specialize in brain tumor management. This initiative focuses on developing the infrastructure necessary for rapid and accurate molecular diagnosis of gliomas, which are challenging to treat due to their complex nature. By analyzing the genetic changes in tumors, the study seeks to identify targeted therapies that could improve patient outcomes. Ultimately, this platform will facilitate the introduction of clinical trials for tailored treatments based on individual tumor profiles.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients with newly diagnosed or progressing WHO Grade 2-4 gliomas who are suitable for surgical procedures that allow for tumor and blood sample collection.

Not a fit: Patients with primary spinal cord tumors or those undergoing active treatment for other malignancies may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to more accurate diagnoses and personalized treatment options for patients with gliomas, potentially improving survival rates and quality of life.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies focusing on molecular diagnostics and targeted therapies for gliomas have shown promise, indicating that this approach is both relevant and potentially impactful.
