What this trial studies
This study aims to assess colorectal cancer screening rates among spouses of patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer and identify barriers to screening using the Health Belief Model. Participants will be randomized into intervention and control groups, with the intervention group receiving tailored education on colorectal cancer, its risks, and screening methods. The study will also evaluate whether providing free FIT kits and addressing issues of cost and convenience can enhance screening rates. The overall goal is to improve awareness and facilitate screening among this at-risk population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are spouses of individuals who have been diagnosed and treated for colorectal cancer and are eligible for screening.
Not a fit: Patients with a personal history of colorectal cancer or those with specific high-risk family histories may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly increase colorectal cancer screening rates among spouses, leading to earlier detection and better outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown that targeted educational interventions can improve screening rates, suggesting this approach may be effective.
Eligibility criteria

Previous personal history of colorectal cancer or colorectal polyps 3. Underwent previous FOBT/FIT tests for CRC (this is an exclusion to participate in Stage 2-RCT only. Participants can still take part in Stage 1 and Stage 3 of the study if they fulfilled inclusion criteria 1-3, and did not meet any of the exclusion criteria 1-2)
