What this trial studies
This initiative aims to address racial disparities in colorectal cancer screening among African Americans by recruiting participants aged 45-75 during their visits to the DMV. A total of 1,200 participants will receive a free Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) kit, along with educational materials and follow-up support. Participants will be divided into two groups: one receiving on-site distribution of the FIT kit and another receiving additional social media advertising. The study seeks to enhance screening rates and provide necessary resources for those with positive results or lacking healthcare access.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this initiative are African Americans aged 45-75 who are not up-to-date with colorectal cancer screening.
Not a fit: Patients with a history of colorectal cancer, adenomas, or inflammatory bowel disease will not benefit from this initiative.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this initiative could significantly increase colorectal cancer screening rates among African Americans, leading to earlier detection and improved health outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown success in using community partnerships to improve screening rates, making this approach both relevant and promising.
