What this trial studies
This project aims to enhance child mental health in Uganda by adapting the WHO's Mental Health Gap Action Programme for use in primary schools. Teachers and health workers will receive training to improve mental health literacy and facilitate collaboration between schools and health services. The study will implement a mixed-methods approach to evaluate the effectiveness of this intervention, focusing on the detection and treatment of mental health issues among children. Key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health and education sector, will be involved in developing sustainable strategies for mental health promotion.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include teachers and caregivers of children enrolled in selected primary schools in Mbale, Uganda.
Not a fit: Patients who are not part of the preselected primary schools or who cannot provide informed consent will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this initiative could significantly improve mental health outcomes for children in Uganda by increasing access to mental health services and support.
