Improving brain injury outcomes for patients needing heart surgery
Integrated Assessment of Cervicocerebral Vessels by Multidisciplinary Team to Improve the Brain Injury for CAGB Patients With High Risk of Stroke (IACV Study)

What this trial studies
This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of an integrated assessment of cervicocerebral vessels in high-risk stroke patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. Participants will be randomly assigned to either a control group, which follows traditional diagnostic methods, or an experimental group that receives a multidisciplinary evaluation including advanced imaging and cognitive assessments. The goal is to develop tailored surgical plans that minimize the risk of brain injury during and after surgery. By incorporating insights from various medical disciplines, the study seeks to enhance patient safety and improve long-term outcomes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older with a history of stroke or transient ischemic attack who require CABG surgery.
Not a fit: Patients under 18, over 80, or those with congenital cerebrovascular malformations may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce the incidence of brain injury in high-risk CABG patients.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is innovative, similar multidisciplinary strategies have shown promise in improving outcomes in complex surgical cases.
