What this trial studies
This pilot study aims to identify barriers that male partners face in completing semen analysis as part of infertility evaluations, particularly in low-resource settings. It will compare the effectiveness and satisfaction of traditional in-clinic semen analysis versus at-home testing kits. A total of 60 male participants will be recruited from the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital Gynecology clinic and randomized to either testing method. The study will assess completion rates, satisfaction, and time to treatment initiation following the analysis.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are English or Spanish speaking male partners of female patients undergoing infertility evaluations at the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital.
Not a fit: Patients who do not speak English or Spanish, are under 18, or are not recommended for semen analysis will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance access to infertility testing for men in underserved communities, leading to improved fertility care.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using at-home testing kits for various medical evaluations, suggesting potential success for this approach in fertility care.
