What this trial studies

This observational study focuses on the implementation of mechanical thrombectomy for patients with large vessel occlusion stroke at Sørlandet Hospital, a limited-volume stroke center in Norway. The introduction of this treatment is guided by a simulation-based quality assurance program to address potential quality challenges. The study will monitor timelines, technical and clinical outcomes, and adverse events to assess the impact of this intervention on patient morbidity and mortality. By reducing transfer times to comprehensive centers, the study aims to improve patient outcomes in acute stroke care.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adult patients diagnosed with large vessel occlusion stroke.

Not a fit: Patients with intracranial hemorrhage, tumors, aneurysms, or vascular malformations in the stroke area, or those who present more than 24 hours after stroke onset may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce morbidity and mortality for stroke patients treated at smaller hospitals.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown that timely thrombectomy can significantly improve outcomes in stroke patients, suggesting that this approach may yield positive results as well.
