What this trial studies
This observational study investigates the effects of subclinical hypothyroidism on short-term outcomes in patients diagnosed with acute coronary syndrome at Sohag University Hospitals. It aims to assess the relationship between elevated thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels and cardiovascular events, including heart failure and myocardial infarction. The study will involve thyroid function tests, cardiac enzyme assessments, and ECG monitoring to gather relevant data on patient outcomes. By analyzing these factors, the study seeks to better understand the potential risks associated with subclinical hypothyroidism in this patient population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adult patients aged 18 years and older who have been diagnosed with acute coronary syndrome.
Not a fit: Patients with overt hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, or severe comorbid conditions may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into the management of patients with acute coronary syndrome who also have subclinical hypothyroidism, potentially improving their clinical outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While there is existing literature on the cardiovascular risks associated with overt hypothyroidism, the specific impact of subclinical hypothyroidism in acute coronary syndrome patients is less explored, making this study a novel investigation.
