What this trial studies

This observational study investigates the effects of non-surgical periodontal treatment on levels of apelin and oxidative stress in patients diagnosed with periodontitis. The research aims to identify reliable biomarkers for diagnosing and monitoring periodontal diseases by analyzing gingival crevicular fluid samples and clinical periodontal parameters. Participants will be categorized based on the 2017 Periodontal Disease Classification, focusing on those who are systemically healthy and have not undergone recent periodontal treatment. The study seeks to enhance understanding of the relationship between periodontal health and systemic conditions.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are systemically healthy individuals diagnosed with stage 1-4 periodontitis who have at least 20 teeth and have not received periodontal treatment in the last 6 months.

Not a fit: Patients who are periodontally healthy, have systemic diseases, are pregnant or lactating, smoke, or have had recent periodontal treatment will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide new insights into biomarkers that improve the diagnosis and management of periodontitis.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited data on the specific biomarkers being studied, previous research has shown promise in exploring the relationship between periodontal treatment and systemic health indicators.
