What this trial studies

This observational study evaluates how malocclusions affect the oral health-related quality of life in adolescents aged 12-19. It utilizes two questionnaires, the Child Perceptions Questionnaire 11-14 and the Psychosocial Impact of Dental Aesthetics Questionnaire, to assess differences in quality of life among adolescents with and without malocclusions, as well as across different genders and socioeconomic statuses. The study also examines changes in quality of life before, during, and after orthodontic treatment, comparing these results to untreated individuals over time. Participants will be recruited from specialist orthodontic and general dentistry clinics and will undergo clinical assessments and standardized intraoral photographs.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adolescents aged 12-19 with varying degrees of malocclusion or those without malocclusion.

Not a fit: Patients who have previously undergone orthodontic treatment or have conditions like cleft lip and palate may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into how orthodontic treatment can improve the quality of life for adolescents with malocclusions.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown that assessing oral health-related quality of life can yield valuable insights, suggesting this approach is promising.
