What this trial studies

This observational study aims to evaluate the effects of enteral nutrition formulas with very high protein content compared to those with normal protein content in critically ill patients with multiple trauma. It will assess energy and protein intake, gastrointestinal tolerance, and body composition changes. The study will monitor daily protein and calorie targets, as well as residual gastric volume, to determine the optimal nutritional approach for these patients. The findings could help refine nutritional strategies in the ICU setting.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include adult patients over 18 years old who are admitted to the ICU with multiple trauma and require intubation and mechanical ventilation.

Not a fit: Patients under 18 years old, those not requiring intubation or mechanical ventilation, and individuals with contraindications to enteral feeding will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve nutritional management and outcomes for critically ill trauma patients.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown positive outcomes with high protein enteral nutrition in critically ill patients, suggesting this approach may be beneficial.
