Identifying heart failure risk in sarcoma patients undergoing chemotherapy
Cardiotoxic Effects of Chemotherapy in Patients With Sarcomas: A Two and Three-Dimensional Echocardiographic Speckle Tracking Imaging Study
This study is trying to find out which sarcoma patients on chemotherapy are most at risk for heart failure by looking at changes in their heart function during treatment.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to identify markers that can predict which sarcoma patients are at the highest risk of developing heart failure due to chemotherapy. It utilizes two-dimensional and three-dimensional echocardiographic speckle tracking imaging to assess myocardial function changes during treatment. The study will compare various echocardiographic measures and cardiac biomarkers to detect early signs of cardiotoxicity. Patients will receive standard chemotherapy with doxorubicin while their heart function is monitored throughout the study.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are sarcoma patients receiving doxorubicin as their first-line chemotherapy treatment at Mayo Clinic.
Not a fit: Patients who are receiving first-line treatments other than doxorubicin or those treated outside of Mayo Clinic may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to earlier detection and prevention of chemotherapy-induced heart failure in sarcoma patients.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in using echocardiographic techniques to monitor cardiac function in cancer patients, suggesting this approach is promising.
