What this trial studies

This observational study aims to estimate how many patients undergoing anesthesia consultations for planned surgeries have previously unknown health risks, such as obesity or anemia. The study will involve in-person preoperative evaluations to assess these risks before elective surgeries. By identifying these health issues, the study seeks to improve patient safety and surgical outcomes. The focus is on patients aged 18 to 50 years who are scheduled for elective procedures.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are men and women aged 18 to 50 years who are scheduled for elective surgery and can attend an in-person anesthesia consultation.

Not a fit: Patients requiring urgent surgery, pregnant women, or those who do not complete the preoperative evaluation will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance patient safety by identifying and addressing health risks before surgery.

How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored health risk detection in surgical settings, this specific approach focusing on anesthesia consultations is relatively novel.
