Identifying causes of male infertility
Identifying Molecular Determinants of Infertility in Men (MODIFY)
This study is trying to find specific markers in sperm that can help understand why some men are infertile, so that doctors can choose better sperm for IVF treatments.

What this trial studies
This study aims to uncover the molecular mechanisms behind male infertility by identifying small non-coding RNA (sncRNA) biomarkers. It will involve comparing sperm sncRNA profiles from approximately 100 men aged 21 to 50, classifying them into fertile and infertile groups using conventional methods. By utilizing semen as a liquid biopsy, the study seeks to generate a validated signature of sncRNAs that can aid in selecting high-quality sperm for IVF procedures.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are men aged 21 to 50 who are experiencing unexplained infertility.
Not a fit: Patients with a history of severe mental conditions, mobility issues, or certain infectious diseases may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to more accurate infertility diagnoses and improved IVF outcomes for men.
How similar studies have performed: While the approach of using sncRNA profiling is innovative, similar studies have shown promise in identifying biomarkers for various conditions, suggesting potential for success.
