What this trial studies

This observational study aims to assess the prevalence of abuse among patients diagnosed with rheumatic diseases in Mexico. It will be conducted in two phases: first, adapting and validating the Geriatric Abuse Scale (GAS) for this specific patient population, and second, applying the validated scale to evaluate the extent of abuse and associated factors. The study addresses a significant gap in the literature regarding the vulnerability of patients with rheumatic diseases to abuse, given their chronic and progressive conditions.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults diagnosed with a rheumatic disease who consent to participate.

Not a fit: Patients without a confirmed diagnosis of a rheumatic disease will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved awareness and interventions for preventing abuse in patients with rheumatic diseases.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited information on abuse prevalence in rheumatic disease patients, similar studies in older adults have shown significant findings, indicating potential relevance.
