How often eyelids are affected in adults with atopic dermatitis

Frequency of Palpebral Involvement in Adult Atopic Dermatitis, in a Cohort of Patients From Lille and Rouen (France) ; a Multicenter Prospective Study

Observational University Hospital, Lille · NCT04826744

What this trial studies

This is an observational study enrolling adults diagnosed with atopic dermatitis using the Hanifin and Rajka criteria to document how frequently the eyelids are involved. Participants will have a standard dermatology consultation and may undergo allergy-focused evaluations such as patch-testing as part of the protocol. The study will also record associated eye conditions (for example conjunctivitis or keratoconus) and collect clinical data to better describe the palpebral presentation. No investigational drugs are given; the aim is to characterize prevalence and possible allergic contributors to eyelid disease in atopic dermatitis.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults (18+) with atopic dermatitis by revised Hanifin and Rajka criteria who can give oral consent and have valid social insurance are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: People under 18, those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, patients with uncontrolled asthma, or those without social insurance are excluded and would not be eligible to participate or benefit from this observational protocol.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the study could help clinicians recognize eyelid involvement earlier and guide more targeted allergy testing and management for affected patients.

How similar studies have performed: Previous publications estimate palpebral involvement at about 20% but prospective allergological (patch-test) studies in this specific patient group are essentially lacking, making this approach relatively novel.
